IN HIS IMAGE

I have come to the understanding that Christianity is not selfish; it is not self seeking. This is the nature of love, God did all these out of love, He blessed us with all the spiritual blessings because He loves us. When revelation of the word of God is revealed to me, I find it difficult to keep them to myself, I always want to share. This is not because I want to show you I know more, but it is done out of love. That is our nature in Christ, we are not competing in knowing God’s word but rather we always want to produce someone at least after our kind. We want to impact someone with all within us. If I’m allowed to teach or preach (share) the word of God, I could speak my whole life without getting tired of the gospel. I want to produce the listener in my image and likeliness, I want to let him think the way I think, speak the way I speak. That is one element of love… not self seeking (1 Cor. 13:5).
This is what God did, “And God said, let us make man in our image, and after our likeliness…” (Gen. 1:26). He now molds us in His own image and after His likeliness. He had finished his work on us and now wants us to be just like him. He did not act greedy or selfish, He showed love here. God wants us to be full of Him; He wants us to come unto the fullness of Christ. That is why He lives in us; the totality of the God Head is in us. He dwells in us and is one with our spirit. God wants us to also say “let there be…
We are in His image but it seems we are individually different with face. This is one thing that rings in the mind of people. We accept that, God have legs and hands just as we do. But is it that He is fair or black, is he short or tall, does I resemble Him with my face?
First and foremost, the word image is not the same as face grammatically. An image is a picture of somebody or something. It is what you see when you look in a mirror. While the face is a part of the image on the head, which shows expression. Of course the face is essential to the remembrance of the body. Many are curious of knowing how God looks like with the face in particular.
The image of God is His Gospel; the word of God is the image of Him. “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them who believeth not, least the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” (2 Cor. 4:4). This tell us the word of God is His image. Note that the gospel of Christ was not assigned “which” but “who” which means He is a person.
Christ told us to preach His gospel to the World. The words that comes out of us through the Holy Spirit contains light. The Bible says at John 1:4 the life is the light of man. The light contains life, so He lives, and this light is the light of man of which the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers. The light comes by the glorious Gospel of Christ, it comes by the word of God. This gospel of Christ is Jesus Himself.
Hebrews 1:3 says Jesus “who is the brightness of the glory o God, the express image of His person…” brightness comes as a result of light, and Christ is the brightness of the Glory of God. He is the express image of God personally, which means Jesus Christ is the exact image of God.
And Jesus Christ is the word of God (Jesus is the gospel we preach), hence the Word of God describes God Himself. It is really true that the words that comes out of the mouth, describes the person. The image of persons is described by words when you read the book of Proverbs.
But when we were born again, we became new creations in Christ Jesus. This new person is Christ who is the express image of God. That is what God sees when He looks at us, He wants us to come to the fullness of Christ. Roman 8:29 say “…God also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son…” we are in the exact image of Christ such that when you are put before angels to chose Jesus Himself, they would not be able to do so.
Also the Bible says at 1 Corinthians 3:18 that, “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are change into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the spirit of the Lord.” The glass there means mirror, which reflects an object before it. And when we behold to it, we see ourselves in the mirror. Here lies the case you see Christ when you stand before the mirror, you see the new you.
The mirror of God is His word, the more we study and meditates upon it, the more we are changed into His image; the more we resemble God. James said “For if any man be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.” (Jas. 1:23-24). He compared a man looking in a mirror to see his looks, with the word of God. With our natural face we look into God's word to find our looks, we are change into Him the more we behold. The word that comes out of your mouth is your image.
